There's no denying fall is here

Fall's Fashion Heroes

This fall weather has been sublime! I just hiked with my friends near the city, and the crisp mornings last week were a nice teaser for the weather to come. As it becomes chillier, one of my favorite parts about this time of year is refreshing my wardrobe. Adding new layers, sliding into some jeans I haven’t seen since June, and finding my “Fall Heroes” – stylish pieces that liven up any outfit for both the weather and style forecasts. As Vogue wisely said last week, “We want our clothes to feel right for ‘now’ but also have longevity” and Fall is the time to find your perfect balance between the two.
Did you know that this year the Columbia River Gorge was voted one of the top places by Travel + Leisure to see fall foliage? This past weekend, I drove to the Gorge to see the foliage in all its glory. Everything from a pumpkin patch, to apple picking, to wine tasting on the Fruit Loop – this beautiful area is a Portlander’s playground. For the picturesque, outdoorsy day ahead, group photos were inevitable, and there’s a finesse to being photo-ready yet comfortable. Layers were key, and an outfit for the quintessential group photo was a must. I tried a twist on the classic flannel and jeans using Forte Forte’s Oxford Grandfather Shirt – the burgundy stitching down the front is right on trend. The Countryside Fleece by The Great is rustic and cozy for crisp mornings, and I’m adding freshness to my denim look with a Shon Barrel Jean by Nili Lotan. A beloved look with modern updates.
This time of year also encourages intimate indoor hangs – when we start to gather at friends' homes, add warmth with the smell of a homemade meal, and have dinner parties that include fun cheeseboards and vibrant dinner conversations. Walking up to a friend’s warmly lit home as I carry a dish in one hand, and wine in the other, is one of fall’s great joys and helps welcome the season in a comforting way. The slip dress is a great go-to, and I love that Vince is offering it in plaid this season. This look shows the transition with fall hues and is polished with silky fabric and lace trim. Adding Vince's Donegal Cardigan in dusty blue is such a cute way to stay warm while showing off the dress in its own way.
One of my favorite parts about the rainy season is all the theater and art events popping up. Wicked at the Keller? Yes please! Hansel and Gretel by the Oregon Ballet Theater? Absolutely. After a season of camping, picnicking, and hiking, it’s time to listen and learn and glide into something sophisticated. In honor of the spooky season, I do love black, and a key piece in my capsule wardrobe is Akris Punto’s Sheath Dress with this unique round neck covered in black gemstones.  I rarely use the word perfect, but I’d argue this is the…perfect dress for a night out on the town. Lastly, I’m going to throw on an iconic peacoat such as Rosso35’s and have a look that lasts for years.
F. Scott Fitzgerald said, “life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” When I was a kid, my mom took me to buy a new school outfit to signify a new start, a new year, a new me. This season doesn’t have to be entirely transformative, but it can help sprinkle freshness and excitement as the weather changes. 2024 introduced so many new styles but also reminded us of nostalgic trends that are back for a reason. I look forward to finding my beloved Fall Heroes and finding my stride.
Until next time,
