MAXIMALISM
Embracing 2025’s Biggest Trend
without getting too far outside your comfort zone
You know what I’m excited about besides the promise of sunshine? 2025’s main fashion trend: maximalism. Yes that’s right - we’re starting to integrate more color, more prints, and more pieces into our outfits to add that extra pop. Don’t worry, your favorites still matter, but now it’s time to get outside of your comfort zone. What do I mean by that? Say hello to a new color, pattern, or silhouette you haven’t tried before. Pop of citron? Kailedescope print? Barrel Jean? Yes please. It doesn’t have to be a personality change – just find ways to incorporate something “new” to your style in a way that works for YOU and FEELS good. The point is fashion and style should be a little more adventurous, and 2025 is the era embracing this mentality. Many designers are taking on new prints, and colors, and showing how we can wear them daily while still feeling like ourselves. Consider it an opportunity for gentle “reinvention” during the change of seasons.
Florals are always a theme this time of year, but designers are doing things a little differently. Rails just dropped their latest spring line and the collection welcomes unconventional prints and cheerful color, but in a way that helps you do it at your own speed. Their new dresses welcome a dreamy, tropical theme in a way that embraces floral prints without taking your look to an unrecognizable place. Farm Rio, known for its unique prints, has once again outdone itself. These captivating botanical designs embrace contrasting colors seamlessly, which guarantees confidence when wearing their latest pieces. Since day one, Farm Rio has contextualized their show-stopping patterns and avian themes into the everyday. Their spring collection reinvigorates the excitement of getting dressed – new patterns, new silhouettes (rompers!), and new fabrics like linen and buttery viscose. Their odes to nature epitomize the maximalist trend in such a tasteful manner. Once you see their new spring line, you’ll want to try it too.
Citrus is also having a moment this year! Oranges, yellows, lime greens! They’re a maximalist way to take on the color wheel for spring. However, as much as I love these colors, I told myself yellow wasn’t me. Don’t blame me for saying this, but blondes wearing yellow always threw me off, despite Kate Hudson’s iconic yellow dress in “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days.” But a few weeks ago, one of our stylists suggested I try the Le Mont Saint Michel Striped Théoxane top and Jopeli Skirt. Despite my resistance to the brighter look, she had built my trust over the years by choosing items and colorways for me I would never have chosen for myself. And I promise you, those are the pieces I wear the most often. In this case, I dove in, and she was right! This “it” color makes me shine. And you don’t have to go head-to-toe yellow. Try sprinkling it into your look in small bits, such as a scarf as your third piece. Yellow, buttermilk, chamomile, all pair gracefully with gray, blue, white, or even metallic. If wearing a full citron or tangerine outfit is your style, do it! Akris Punto’s latest spring collection includes approachable takes on these sunny colors. Their newest minidress is made of denim, but its tangerine color gives it a maximalist twist with a fluted hem and rounded godets.
Even denim is fully embracing the maximalist trend. And yes, trying new denim shapes counts as getting out of your comfort zone. Remember when it was scary to style the wide leg? What top? What shoes? Now we have more silhouettes to confidently play with – barrel, kick flare, cropped horseshoe. All of these styles flatter the waist and elongate the leg beautifully. They are more exaggerated in the best ways and just slight enough to push me outside my normal look of straight leg. And all of this denim can be elevated into a more polished look with a new blouse or dressed down with your favorite tee. Citizens of Humanity has expanded their style selection. Their take on the barrel, the Miro Relaxed Jean, is just tapered enough for those looking to try it out. The barrel is maximalist in its own right – its new-ish silhouette is just edgy enough without being too dramatic. Frame, another denim legend, is embracing the wide-leg style along with sailor pockets. Pair with your favorite button-down and it creates an elegant look for day and night. The idea is to not get overwhelmed with all the options. If you really want to lean to getting out of your comfort zone, try this new top by one of our favorite brands, TWP. Their Next Ex Shirt is ready-made with pre-cuffed sleeves, a cropped silhouette, and is a polished pairing the different denim silhouette. It’s a way to dabble in the themes of 2025 and look VERY on-trend.
In response to the past year of quiet luxury, we are ready for a fresh perspective on style and fashion. A perspective filled with fun, edge, and a little something that pushes us beyond our own style boundaries. And, stepping outside of my comfort zone is one of my favorite activities. Whether it’s eating alone, exploring a new hiking trail, or trying a crop top for the first time, it’s good for all of us. And in this year when we hear the word “maximalism” everywhere, do it your way and you’re sure to find something you love.
Until next time,
