What to Wear for Every Kind of
New Years
In the words of Ella Fitzgerald, “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” I, for one, haven’t figured it out yet, but I’m already daydreaming of outfits (um, I mean, plans) as we fly through December. I’m so excited for all the occasions ahead, but what to wear? So many fun opportunities to wear my star pieces as I finish out the year with a glass of bubbly in hand.
It’s the year of the matching set – I’ve been wearing mine on coffee walks with my pup AND at home lounging watching the latest Christmas movies. It’s liberating that people can be out in the comfiest clothes without echoing our dad’s closet circa 1986. Even though I already have a few matching sets in my rotation, I’ve been eyeing the Rails set speckled with embroidered champagne glasses and bottles. Cue cork pop! This set is more elevated than the average gray sweatsuit, but just as soft and cozy as your old sweatshirt from years ago. When I picture a fun “Girls' Night In” featuring kick-ass apps, champagne, games, and movies, I see myself wearing the set, and adding this Grevi paillette beanie for some sparkly flair, and proudly appearing at my friend’s door ready to go. I’m also a “champagne year-round” person so I plan on wearing this sweatshirt into the wintery season ahead (Apré ski anyone?).
My mom invited me to dinner with my dad, aunts and uncles, and a few family friends. I love spending time with them, and I know how much they love eating out at a fun restaurant that’s decked out for the sparkly holiday. At dinner, we all go around the table and say one resolution, drink champagne and eat delicious food. With an event like this to ring in the New Year, I plan to keep it sweet and classy. I’ve been loving the tonal looks this year, and I’m fully leaning into the trend with my own coppery twist. Nothing is more pretty than a great button-down, and Nili Lotan’s Gaia Shirt is very flattering. Its slightly sheer, lightweight silk elevates it to a level worthy of NYE. In keeping with the tonal theme I found these velvet flared trousers by Forte Forte. They hug me just right, and the eye-catching sheen captures the feel of the season without being too over-the-top. My favorite part of this outfit though is my Roxanne Assoulin Puffy Heart necklace. I kid you not – I wear this almost every day. The Puffy Heart has added a kick to many of my looks – especially the capsule pieces that need a twist of originality. With this tonal look, I’m doubling it up for a shorter, more layered approach. For my odds and ends, I’ll probably throw this knockout Staud Tommy Beaded gold and copper bag over my shoulder and run out the door just in time before Mom says I’m late.
If my friends feel like dancing the night away, I always have an LBD on hand. Say what you want about wearing black, but there’s a reason why it shines in almost every setting. This includes a fun, sparkly, party filled with poppers, friends dressed to the nines, and funky “2025” glasses to be worn in all photos. I’ve used this Vince satin slip dress a handful of times, and there’s a reason. It’s simple, sexy, flattering, and perfect for almost any event! I’d describe it as my “closet bestie.” It also pairs with every shoe and bag I have in my closet. To add structure to the dress, I’m throwing the dreamy leather blazer by Vince over my shoulders. The leather exudes an edginess, but the tailored shape adds a sexiness that only this jacket can live up to. The black-on-black motif also leaves room for more fun accessory opps in time for all the parties! Speaking of, I treated myself to the show-stopper Paula Rosen padlock necklace. The rhodium is dark yet sparkly and edgy pairing with the leather. To dial up the festive mood, I’m donning Mansur Gavriel’s silver lambskin cloud clutch. It’s large enough to fit my phone and other essentials without squeezing in anything too tight. The clutch also has a strap just in case I need to throw it over a shoulder while I head to the dance floor.
My wishlist is already long and getting longer, and now is the time to weave those glitzy treats into my wardrobe. InStyle Magazine once recommended swapping out neutrals for metallic pieces this time of year, and I’ve taken that advice to I don’t know what mood I’m going to be in yet for the year’s end, but I do know I love planning my style ahead of time no matter the occasion. My resolutions include wearing clothes that look fun AND sophisticated. Can’t wait to celebrate with cute looks and garish glasses.
Until next time,
