Portlanders saw the sun for one day this weekend and the city was bustling! We ran, we played, we sat OUTSIDE for happy hour – idyllic for welcoming March. And while gray skies followed shortly after, we finally began to draft our OOO messages and see ourselves on our next sunny Spring Break getaways, sporting bright clothes and a tan. With these travel reveries came thoughts of what fun outfits to pack for my upcoming getaway. I am so excited to pack the newest spring styles into my suitcase. Out with the parka and in with all of the colorful outfits that say hello to body parts that haven’t seen the world in a while. Let’s dive into some styles that my friends and I will be packing in our suitcases.
My friend is traveling to Key West this year with her husband and 2 boys under three. March is supposedly the last month that it isn’t unbearably humid there. She has packed and purchased everything needed for her kiddos (and her husband), but not surprisingly is still packing her own suitcase. And while many can get away with the average “parrothead” garb, she won’t don that getup. Luckily, the latest collection from Vince has linen blends and pastel colors ideal for the humidity. The designer’s latest palette includes a watercolor-inspired motif, stretchy smocking, and checked patterns that exude vacation and garden party vibes. The gorgeous fabrics and cool prints are worth throwing in your suitcase. Another essential accessory to add? A straw hat that’s shaped like a cowgirl hat. Yes… you heard that right. Rag & Bone straw hats with a nod to “cowboycore” but pack down tight. I can’t express how chic it feels to wear this chic, humidity-friendly combo.
Every year, my cousin and her family jet over to Oahu and stay at a spacious Airbnb with friends. They go out to dinner almost every night and spend most of the day by the pool. Growing up, we always received classic Hawaiian dresses from our parents that we wore throughout the trip, but never wore again afterward. Inversely, Ulla Johnson, known for her bold prints, and ruffled silhouettes, recently debuted her latest bright floral prints just in time for this trip, and for the rest of a sunny day uniform. Maximalism is here and this designer is embracing the latest trend in all its multicolored glory. Her most recent partnership embeds an ancient hand-painting technique with botanical dyes to showcase the most unique pieces. The jaw-dropping prints will make for stellar photos and will be worn for many occasions outside of this trip. We’re embracing color and bold prints for spring break and for the sunny days ahead.
I’m headed to Palm Springs for a quick girl's getaway – catching up on my favorite book poolside, maybe an early morning golf session, and painting the town to eat at some of the city’s Michelin-rated restaurants. I always love a good take on interesting textures and embellishments, and Forte Forte’s latest Spring collection is a refreshing approach to some quintessential spring trends. Embroidered floral detailing on a classic white button-down or balloon sleeves on a pastel pinstripe are just some examples of the pinnacle of “classic with a twist.” I plan on wearing a white button-down with my favorite denim or as a swimsuit cover-up. Another poolside favorite? Helen Kaminski’s Madagascan raffia accessories. I’ve been searching for the perfect packable straw hat that doesn’t resemble my dad’s favorite fishing favorite (sorry Dad), and this fits the bill. In the desert heat, it’ll be my bestie.
While packing can be a chore, these spring outfits can sprinkle some fun into the process.
