Summer Style: Portland Edition

What to wear around town this summer

Break out the tunes, flood those restaurant patios, and unfold your picnic blankets – summer is HERE! And Portlanders really know how to do summer well. We embrace the season with full hearts, ready for that sunshine. In celebration of this time, Portland has some incredible events down the pipeline that we can’t wait for.

First, it’s Patio season! Patios in every quadrant of the city are open from happy hour to closing. I just met up with some friends after work in NW, and all the restaurants had their windows up, open, and teeming with excited Portlanders happily sipping their beverage of choice. Many of these happy hours start as early as 4, and most people are heading there as soon as they can, straight from the office. From cubicle to cocktail, designers have easy breezy options that do just that. Ulla Johnson has mastered the art of an elegant dress that can also be paired down with the right sandal. And Vince has elegant linen dresses that you could wear in a meeting with your boss, visiting your friend at their club, or with your bestie to a nearby patio.

Portland’s music scene is something to behold, and whether it’s McMenamin’s Edgefield or the Cathedral Park Jazz Fest, you’re likely holding a bevvie, sitting on a picnic blanket, and blissfully chatting with your friends about your surroundings. As you soak in the sun and blissfully enjoy those rays you’ve longed for, let’s talk about what to wear. Textured tops are the summer bestie of 2025. Xirena and Rails are slaying it this year. Xirena has embraced full stripes while Rails’ latest tops are screaming summer! Seashells, shades of blue, soft scallops – the works. And for bottoms? Shorts are my favorite – long, short, torn, or not. Frame and Nili Lotan are once again shining in this department. However, if shorts aren’t your thing, lightweight pants in linen and gauze are just as airy and SO in. Make sure you also bring some sun protection! Rag & Bone and Helen Kaminski have styles for everyone. Grab your favorite tote to fit all your bits and bobs, and you’re ready to go.

And yes, First Thursdays is back in full swing! July 3 will be here before you know it, with a block party for the books— another spot for live music, art, and locally owned shops to showcase their latest creations. Good news is you can wear (almost) whatever you want. Cue more crochet tops and tanks of all shades! 2025 has been the year of maximalism and color, and summer is the opportunity to experiment with this trend in spades. Daydreamer released some new concert tees that capture the fun of summer ahead, and Nation LTD’s newest minis allow some room to breathe, and you weave your way through booths and drink lines.

As you unveil some of your favorite warm-weather items from your closet, check for what’s missing. We’re happy to help you find that special piece as we dive headlong into these dreamy summer months. We love to chat all things fashion, especially as the seasons change! See you at the patio,
