Denim Trends: What They Are & How to Wear Them

2024 is the year to try new denim styles. The skinny jean isn’t going anywhere, but many of us are still learning how to pair the latest trends with the right top. While you can always pair any jeans with the “classic white tee,” let’s talk about how to style them with more color and originality:
Let’s start with the wide-leg. Our designers here provide us with a lot of options as we search for a great pair to live in. Citizen of Humanity’s Cuffed Ayla will go with everything with it relaxed fit.  Pair this with  this Forte Forte Creponne Top and Maria Cher Boedo Jacket for a cropped denim-on-denim look. The cropped top and jacket match nicely with the high waist. Dress it up with some jewelry like Rene Escobar’s yellow gold bangle with these Chan Luu Drop Earrings.

Next up, the barrel jean. More designers have revealed their take on this style and it’s more approachable than you realize. According to Lyst, they've seen a 150% increase in searches for barrel jeans from September to October of 2023. Back in March we did a quick demo of how to wear the Citizens of Humanity Marcelle, and this has quickly become a closet staple because it fits all body types. Start by pairing it with something like The Railway by The Great, and some pretty jewelry like the Spike Bee by Paula Rosen. Bring the entire look together by throwing on a this Vera Vest by Herno.  You’ll find once you put these barrel jeans on, you’ll want to wear them all the time.
Cropped! Perfect for summer styling and showing off those ankles that have been hiding all winter. Try the flirty  Harper Crop by Agolde, perfect for those impending bbqs filling up your calendar as the sun plays peek-a-boo. Try matching the cropped jean with something like this Poppy Blouse by Vince or this Sveva Knit top by Momoni. Pop in these hoop earrings by Zofia Day, and you are ready to go.
Yes - the flare is here for summer. The Dock jean by The Great is a fan favorite because you can tuck in a top to show off your waist and balance out the flare at the bottom. Because these jeans are in a slimmer style, a looser top with a French tuck will tie the look together. Try the Shea Top by Ulla Johnson or this Ombre short sleeve sweater by Majestic Filatures
White and Ecru. While this is a color as opposed to a style, it’s worth mentioning the colors' versatility as we transition to a warmer time of year. Many designers aligned their whites with the trends mentioned above –  cropped (and wide-leg) Frame,  AG with the wide-leg, Mother with its Ankle Fray. Try styling with a barn jacket like this one from Forte Forte or a blazer like this mustard linen piece by Ines de la Fressange. Believe it or not, many women are a white-on-white look as a twist to the denim-on-denim trend that’s everywhere. Try pairing your white jeans with a white denim jacket or a white top like the Abbott by Xirena. Add a splash of color with this Sundown necklace by Sierra Winter.
All of the styles above are just enough to get you out of your denim comfort zone. Be brave, be bold, and try them on. I bet you’ll find another favorite pair that you’ll want to wear on these sunnier days.
 Until next time,
